If you know anything about Manuka honey you know that it is a powerful antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. This makes it extremely versatile and a go to for many people for various reasons. One of the most common use cases for Manuka honey are bad coughs and sore throats (among many other things).
Although a high MGO Manuka alone usually does the trick, sometimes its beneficial to add some of the other gifts nature has provided. Furthermore, when you account for the fact that Manuka honey has been shown to enhance a multitude of other holistic ingredients due to it's extremely unique mechanisms, you'll want to add it to all your holistic recipes! This all natural cough syrup is a great one to start with and is especially perfect for dry and irritated coughs and dry sore throats common in the spring and fall:
About 1 cup of Manuka honey (the higher the MGO the more potent) - Powerful antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant that will help sooth and coat a sore throat, boost immune system, and eliminate bacteria, viruses, or fungi.
2 tbsp Mullein Leaf extract - Often used to support respiratory health, reduce inflammation, and act as an expectorant (clears mucus).
2 tbsp Nettle extract - Rich in nutrients and acts as an antihistamine making it great for allergies and inflammation. Pairs well with Manuka and Mullen.
2 tbsp Marshmallow Root extract - Excellent for coating the throat, preventing dryness in the throat, and relieving irritation. Pairs very well with Mullen and Manuka.
1/2 tsp Ginger extract - an antioxidant with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties.
2 tbsp Plantain Leaf extract (optional) - Used for soothing inflammation, digestive support, and wound healing. It has mild antimicrobial properties and is generally well-tolerated.
Blend the ingredients thoroughly (be sure to use food grade organic extracts) and store in a cool dry place. If refrigerated you will probably need to blend again before consumption. 1-2 teaspoons a day is the recommended serving.
